The prefixes un- and non- mean not.
In this work, children match the words with their definition and a sentence. Blank cards are included so that children may add new words as they find them in their reading. These words are different than those in the CKLA workbook so that children have additional practice opportunities. As an extension, you may consider having children write additional sentences for each word.
Words included:
nonfiction - (adjective) writing that is not fiction - I read a ___________ book about turtles, and I learned many facts.
nondescript - (adjective) not having special characteristics (plain) - The kid was wearing a _________ t-shirt; it didn’t have any writing or graphics.
nonfat - (adjective) not having any fat - The man was trying to stay healthy, so he ate ________ yogurt instead of ice cream.
nonsense - (noun) something that does not make sense - I couldn’t understand the toddler’s writing. It looked like _________.
uncommon - (adjective) not common - It is _______ for it to snow in the summer, but sometimes it can happen.
uncomfortable - (adjective) not comfortable - I don’t like wearing those pants because they are too tight and ______.
undecided - (adjective) have not decided - I am ______ about what to do this Saturday. I could play with my friend at the park or play basketball with my brother.
